Carine resident receives award for artwork

Congratulations to St Ives Carine resident Marilyn Hamilton for her award in the 2019 Wanneroo Community Art Awards & Exhibition.

Her artwork entitled ‘Going Going…’ received the Highly Commended Award in the Works on Paper category. View it here.

The judges for the competition were Greg Sikich, Curator of Mundaring Art Centre and Midland Junction Art Centre, and Dr Ric Spencer, artist, writer and curator of Fremantle Arts Centre.  Their comment reads as follows:

An interesting composition with luscious colour combination that contrasts and complements. It provokes curiosity and creates an element of fun in speculating about the subject matter.

Marilyn says that her artwork was created totally by chance!  Taking photographs of the bush out by our pool with an old Polaroid camera, the film was found to be out-of-date and these are the images that emerged. Only a true artist can visualise how these images can be turned into a work of art.

The Exhibition is still on at the Wanneroo Art Gallery at 3 Rocca Way, Wanneroo until 14 June. There is a great cafe on the ground floor so if anyone is interested in viewing some brilliant work, this can be an enjoyable outing.

Marilyn also recently submitted two artworks to the Wanneroo Joondalup Art Society exhibition at the Sorrento Life Saving Club over the weekend of 4-6 May. ‘Bush Track’ was a collagraph print which included leaf litter from the bush near our pool, ‘Development of Writing’ was a tree-drawing on recycled paper from the Alexander Library and both were sold.

So, well done, Marilyn.  A great month for you and it’s great to have such a talented artist in our community.
